An article at Gamespy compares Dark Age of Camelot with Everquest. Gamespin #27 also contains an interview with Mark Jacobs on Mythic's MMORPG. Here's a part of it:
GameSpin: Any interesting launch anecdotes you want to share?
Mark Jacobs: During our launch we had prepared for all sorts of things going wrong. The only real blemish on the game's performance during open day though was due to an old-fashioned error. One of our computers crashed on opening day because we forgot to clean out some old log files that were on the machine from the beta test. An old-fashioned error for a rather modern game.
GameSpin: One of the issues with these games is player burnout. How will DaoC combat this?
Mark Jacobs: Hopefully by having lots of options for things to do other than just play whack-a-mole. With our trade skill system, realm vs. realm combat, housing and other things going in over the next 6 months we hope that players will experience less burnout here than they might have had in other games. If players have lots of different things to do, the chance of burnout is less. |
