I think one of the first things we learned about Vanguard was that Jeric was one of the main NPCs in the game. He was first introduced to us early on, in fact he was the one who solved those mind-breaking announce puzzles. Because he upstaged everyone in the community, many of us took to calling him “Jerk” due to his arrogant attitude. Then, later on in the OGR interview with Keith, Brad, and Cindy we found out that the painting we see on the main page is not complete, and that there will be more characters added in the future.
