IGN has previewed Mythic's 'Catacombs' expansion for 'Dark Age of Camelot'.A successful massively multiplayer game can be like a double-edged sword. One of the many facets of making a good one is creating a graphics engine that can last for the long haul. Believe it or not, EverQuest had very polished and impressive visuals for its time. Now, you can only tell by comparing it to the original Half-Life which was more in the middle of the road.
As the years go on and an MMO keeps up a head of steam, it starts aging quickly--the bar for sound and visuals gets pushed up a notch every year, and next thing you know, you can barely stand to look at a game you gushed over not so long ago. With around 250,000 active subscribers, Dark Age of Camelot is a powerhouse, but with shiny looking upcoming competitors like EverQuest II and World of Warcraft (which isn't jaw-dropping but has art style up the ying-yang), it's time to keep up with the Joneses. |
