I've just played the demo; but I rate it high coz :
1) It's made by true looking glass fans
2) Guys who sweat their shirt too make the game they want !
3) It's a RPG
4) It uses a first person view
5) It has a great magic system
6) It's french !!!
7) It exists !
8) I'll be able to play it in two months !
9) It has a great in-game engine ( and so a unique feel ) not like some tweak of well known engine...
10) seeing all that, it couldn't be bad !
11) I met Raf' and Cyril and they're really nice guys !

Great dungeon crawl, good puzzles, challenging fights, good story, great atmosphere, lots of fun. Sounds like a 10 ? - perhaps, but there are too many bugs and crashes to the desktop in this game, i really hope, that Arkane Studios will fix this as soon as possible.

Indeed the best RPG experience in a computer game. It has some faults, most of them are fault of the impressive AI showed at Gothic. Probably if Gothic had never been released no one will doubt this is the best RPG ever, but their NPCs AI put to shame Morrowind's.
Still, it has the most inmersive world, the most enriching experience I have ever had with an RPG, and with new expansions and the mods from the Editor it includes, the experience will last for years to come. Want to get some incredible holidays? Get a week off a buy this game, a prepare to visit the engrossing world of Morrowind and Tamriel. There's no better place to be. |

I have loved Arx Fatalis very much. It has great grafic and best sound. You learn the controls very quick and find them very easy. I have played as a thief, because I love Thief 1+2; you can also play warrior style or magc like. There are so much good riddles and secrets, everyone should take time to play Arx, and not miss the secrets.

I just played through the demo and I must say I was a bit disappointed. The graphics were quite good, but I didn't like the fog effect one bit. The controls were awkward and felt "unnecessary". All the problems were of the type "pull a lever, done". But the speech was good at least! Anyhow, I know I just played the demo but it sure doesn't make me want to buy the game. |

The more addicted RPG i've played since Ultima Underworld. A lot of secondary quests,a great level design, a wonderful magic system and a true liberty of action(want to play berserk, no trouble, kill them all) make Arx one of the more immersive game i've played.
The only bad thing it is i find it too short (it is not, but i so enjoy it ...)
Buy it and enjoy it.

I just don't know why this game is at the third position. Arx is far from being the third best mmorpg to date. Maybe it's just me, but I can't get into the game. The graphics are not that extraordinary. The music is not good. There is nothing so special about the magic system, it's copied on Black and White anyway. |

Great game. A few bugs, sometimes cutscenes with no audio, puzzles with few clues, etc., but what are guides for. I loved the immersion, setting, graphics, sounds and gameplay. A few less rats and maybe another class of beast that garners XP would be good. This was a great attempt at giving us something of UW and something better. Kudos |

A fun game, great atmosphere. Definitely does not deserve a 10 when compared to other great RPG's (Fallout, Torment, etc), though. Too linear for me, which is reflected by the total lack of choice in dialogue. You cannot play a good, bad or ugly character -- only the character they have scripted. |

This game iis OK but its not great. The spell system, while inovative, is annoying. Also the games linearity and bugs detract if you actually try to explore the world instead of blindly following the admitedly decent story. |

A fun game. I've had a great time with it. Not quite as good as the RPG titans like Morrowind and the Baldur's Gate games, but from a first time developer? Outstanding! The graphics were a little weak, it was massively frustrating trying to figure out where to go next (my biggest gaming pet peeve!)

It's a brilliant game, though not perfect (but what is?). I have to say that for a first timer this is really an impressive piece of work. It's been years since I've been glued to my monitor like this... Arx is the best thing since Angband for me :) And as for the atmosphere...BEST EVER! Not much of an RPG. More like an adventure game. Character development system poor. Can't really develop more than one or two skills. Extremely linear as well. The only role you play is the one the developers scripted. Nice graphics, good sound, interesting magic system but BORING. Got to level 9 (out of 10) but I doubt I'll bother finishing it. |

Just too linear. Though you CAN sometimes do things out of order, it causes incoherence in the cutscenes. The interface is too intrusive, and the promise of item manipulation is betrayed by the small number of "recipes" that actually do anything. But... atmosphere is good, some of the textures are lovely, enemy AI is interesting. And the gameworld is bigger than it looks at first... but still too small. |

This is the first game that has actually caused me to jump when things happen. I got so caught up in the battles I felt the panic of trying to stay alive. There is frustration due to the lack of more concrete help in the game to send you on the right trail, and I had to resort to the walkthrough. But even that didn't give away all the in's and out's to the game, so it still has a LOT of surprizes. I would put my order in for Arx 2 in a second. The action, sound and graphics are great. It is hard to believe this is a first try for these guys. I think I read that somewhere. Keep up the great work. |

Well, congratulations at first. It's long since I really enjoyed playing a game like I do enjoy playing Arx Fatalis. These days game designer, especially in the RPG scene, seem to think that having awful sound and graphics makes a good game, but noone seems to care for a story or small riddles, puzzles and stuff like that. I really enjoyed playing Ultima Underworld 1& 2, System Shock and stuff like that, well with the exception of Anachronox it's pretty long since I got my hands on a really enjoying game like this.
So... :) Great work dudes. And... well... Your design flaws are not a big deal in my opinion. If you manage to continue such great games, you just found a lifetime player :) |

A very good game, with some problems. In many ways this could have been the classic RPG of 2002, but while the ambition was there, the execution wasn't. Ultima Underworld is one of the greatest RPGs of all time. The interaction with the enviroment, the first game in 3d, the freedom, the varied ways of playing. It's the spiritual predecessor to Deus Ex, Thief, System Shock and many more classics. As a tribute Arx works well in some areas, but not so well in others.
The atosphere in this game is first class. Similar to Thief, you feel that there is so much history and that the world has survived a long time. The cultures are varied and very well depicted. The Goblins are hilarious and have to be one of the funniest things I have seen in a RPG. The variety of things to manulate and use adds a lot, but is not consistant. Some items are infinately usable, while others take up plenty of precious space and are as useful as the Henchmen in Neverwinter Nights.
A compass would have been very nice, and there was lot of bugs (most of which have been fixed), and I really miss being able to direct the conversation. I didn't like having to be everyones errandboy, and the game was a little too linear for my taste. The magic system is great, and really adds to the emmersion in the world.
On the whole I would really recommend this game, and while my rating is substantially lower then most, I hope I've explained why. I really look forward to their next game, and believe that Pirana bytes next game will be a classic. Bioware had to develop Baldur's Gate before Baldur's Gate 2, so I hope that the next game surpasses all expectations. |

This is one of the most realistic and intersting games I've ever played on the PC. the first person combat combined with the RPG game type makes the game both complex and fun at the same time. There are so many different paths you can choose to lead to unique endings each time. It's great!! I would highly reccomend this game! |

Graphics were great, sound was good, and the idea was there. The magic system in particular was inovative and fun. Unfortunately, the game sucked. I dont think I've ever played a game with a less jointed plot in my life. Its not that the quests or clues themselves were difficult, just that there was a great lack of direction. E.g. Find the magic item to shield you from the demons mana drain. Apart from wandering aimlessly between levels and talking to everyone you met, there was no enjoyable way of completing this, or clues to make the task a little less boring. Overall, strongly disapointed. |

Undergroung RPG (seen that before) but pulled off with magic scenery with mood and atmosphere all round. Interesting storyline and yes, once you've handled the controls the game is a treat. I´ve just finished the game and I want to give it another vote now.
The game comes with an outstanding atmosphere, great sound effects and nice graphics.
Unfortunately it also comes with very clumsy and annoying controls - I never get used to it.
I like intelligent puzzles, but my IQ is simply too low to handle some of the puzzles in this games without a walkthrough - they are difficult and frustrating.
BUT....it´s a great game. |

I can't see how this game is ahead of morrowind in this poll. The game was pretty easy up until you had to kill the ylsides and then it became near impossible. You would have to build a damn tank with your skill points to beat them. Also, only being able to go to level 10 and lack of exp. from monsters, and the controls have to be the most horrible for a first person rpg. All of the above makes this game a 5 or less in my book. Morrowind is an easy 9. |

Its linear and the story is pretty uninteresting. Combat gets very hard for anybody who doesn’t have a high magic skill. Even with the last patch you still get dumped back to the desktop regularly.
Its easy to miss important items such as keys and then end up spending hours trying to find out how to get past a door.
Most of the puzzles are logical but there are a few which will have you reaching for a
walkthrough.
I enjoyed ultima underworld much more. |

I've said it before and I'll say it again, it's great. I've played Gothic and Morrowwind and love this one the most. Only draw back is lack of ingame directions, but PDF file takes care of that without giving spoilers. It was very well done. Lots of replay value as well. It will suck you in and take you over. |

A good game, but not quite one of the greats for me. The story is captivating enough, but the lackluster journal and the simplistic dialogue make it very hard to actually know what one is supposed to be doing next, which is bad considering the rather linear nature of the game. The number of non-plot related quests is rather small, so free-form exploring is not as exiting as it could be.
The graphics are good, very good texture work and good lighting, however the level design is short on truly breathtaking sites. Some levels capture a lot of mood though, e.g. the goblin towns and especially the crypt, which is actually scary.
While the rune-drawing magic system is interesting and I did enjoy it it is also difficult to use in the heat of battle - mostly I had to use my three spell slots, which admittedly was enough for most fights. |

Great RPG based in an eerie underground world. Excellent character development as well as hundreds of weapons, spells and item to collect along the way. Good graphics, sound and open gameplay make for an interesting experience.. Well worth a look. |

Overall a good game to waste some time on. Some of the game features are annoying. If you are going to have a physics engine, make it realistic. The guy throws like a wimp. Loved the Thief nod - it was like thief meets UUW. Another thing is not being able to drop a group of items in one pile. The magic system is really interesting to have to manually cast the runes, but i can't match the runes half the time - just gets annoying after a while. The journal is clunky and unorganized. PLus not all clues are recorded...The map is not good interface. More stuff, but man, i can't put this puppy down. If you liked Eye of beholder you'll like this. |

I really enjoyed the magic system in theis game. While the casting can be tedius during battle, I felt it was one of the more "realistic" casting systems I've played so far. I would think it is almost impossible to beat without the walkthrough though because some of the puzzles are unbelievably tough.

I loved UW1/2 but I didn't like this. I got the sword on the bottom floor soon after I started, and then combat was way too easy after that. I ended up doing everything in the "wrong" order and eventually after many hours I found out I had screwed up the main plot and just gave up on it - Just like I did in Divine Divinity. |

Dull - I loved UU2 which is why I bought this. Played for 10-15 hours before getting very bored and uninstalling. Contrast with 200+ hours playing Morrowind (using my sense of imagination to cover the cracks) |

I'm a middle-aged Mum who cut her RP PC teeth on UU2. I waited and waited for UU3 and when it diddn't happen I traced game developers/programmers through EA, Bethesda and finally ( deep joy ) found Arx Fatalis. I have all the Ultima games ( above and below World ) and all the Elder Scrolls. I have nothing but admiration for these games. Arx Fatalis is something I fall into and play infinately. I do sort of wish you could be a girl though........small critisism on an exceptional game. Unlimited potential and .....if you like cooking, you can do that too. Magic system amazing. Flexibility........when you play this game, you can make it your own. |
