RPGVault spotted that the official site for Earth & Beyond has been updated with an article called Building a framework. What is it all about? Well, how the idea for the game came into being. Here's a snippit:
"In the beginning, just a few of us would sit down, and Brett would throw all these ideas at us. Brett looks at a game from an 'entertainment experience' point-of-view, so we'd latch onto an idea he had, and then try to break it down and work on it. One reason it's taken so long to get where we are is that we started with these very big ideas, and had to distill them down to nuts and bolts implementation. But the high concepts we started with really haven't changed. "In the early days, whenever we'd get two or three new people on the project, Brett would start talking about the concept of Earth and Beyond. It was like a coach's inspirational speech before 'the big game.' We'd all get pumped up, and every so often we'd ask Brett to give 'The Talk' again, and each time we'd go a little deeper into different aspects.
"The team was prototyping the game before we actually had the storyline. Brett's thoughts were toward the experience of the game, so we started building toward that. Then the roots of the story started taking shape when we began designing the races. The game experience we wanted to provide led us to creating warriors, capitalists, and a technological/religious race." |
