DTeam has an interesting interview with Ryan Geithman (President) and Ezra Dreisbach (Technical Director) of Snowblind, the developers behind the excellent action RPG for PS2, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. It is, in fact, a post mortem, with a lot a info on development processes and how hard it is to get a publisher to even look at a demo. Here's a bit:
dolo: Obviously we are looking at a sequel to Baldur’s Gate Dark Alliance (with that killer ending with the lizard man). What can you tell us about it? Got any screenshots? :)
Ryan: We're not doing a sequel to Dark Alliance. This doesn't mean that Interplay/Black Isle won't do it themselves or get someone else to. Basically, it just didn't end up making sense for us as a company to work on the sequel with Interplay. It's certainly unfortunate.
dolo: Some people have said BGDA was too short. Personally I think it seemed short because of how enjoyable it was. What do you think? Would you make a sequel longer if enough fans bothered you about it? Was it long enough?
Ryan: We'll try to make our next game take a lot longer! We literally had no idea how fast people would breeze through the game. If we could do it all over again I think we'd make the HARD mode the default difficulty. |
