Mystery from Massive Multiplayer.org looks back at Fighting Legends. A game I used to play as well back at those days. The full story is here, from which the following is a little bit:During the open beta, I managed to get my character up to level 54, for what purpose I cannot tell. They had told us repeatedly that the characters would be wiped prior to going live, so I knew that all my bandwidth, CPU cycles, and wasted Real World(tm) time were going to as much use as Vladimir Putin has for a thong bikini -- but I didn't care. The game was _fun_, dammit.
I had a little BearKat. He looked like a Cat, but huskier. He had funny little emotes, and when I turned up the speakers, my kids would literally fall about the house laughing as my BearKat yelled "Whoopee!" in his little voice. He had little BearKat tribe members that would yell similar things, all at the touch of a button. One of his tribe members was even listening to headphones, scratching out something on his portable turntable. |
