-Barrier Escape (Submitted by AnSharch)
I found out a simple way to get out of the so-called Barrier
of Life at the very end of Ascension. The barrier is supposed
to be impenetrable and to contain the armageddon spell. However,
using the Legs of Sentri, it is a cinch to climb up the Guardian's
throne and jump right over the force field. Then you can leave
the Guardian trapped in there while you party with the rest
of the gang. =)
-Tricks With Wizards Eye
English isn't Barret's native language, so after my requests
to him to rewrite his e-mail, so we can understand it; he
delivers this interesting tip you can do with "Wizards
Eye" spell. Thanks Barret!
"I find sometimes I got stuck in a wall or stone,
and had to reload to continue. Occasionally, I cast Wizard
Eye for viewing of secret door or the dugeon structure (Cast
Wizard Eye then press ESC, you will find you can view nearby
structure).
After that , I would find I may be stuck in stone again!!
It's strange!! So, I cast Wizard Eye twice, and press ESC,and
again, I'm in the viewing mode. I try to walk away from
that "sticking" stone. I was freed from that sticking stone
I figure out Wizard Eye can be use as " a tool to pass any
obstacle".
After viewing mode of Wizard Eye, your first action ( run
or jump) will pass any wall or force field as there 's no
obstacle in front of!!!!! (I can cast Barrier of life to
prison Guardian , say good-bye to him, and return to Britannia)
I remember in U7, I cast Amagedom, and LB say I'm crazy.
Finally, I used black gate to return home. I think I'm bader
than guardian.....) You really can use the spell to enjoy
many interisting area ( I went out of Abyss, and found it's
fun outside)"

-Cool things with Demons and Making Cash
"I stumbled upon this one the other day when i tried
to make a demon army for myself. I summoned the first one.
great. as soon as the second one came up apparently you
can only have one so the first ran over and killed it right
away. The now dead demon dropped about 400 gold. So I did
it a few more times, easiest cash I've ever made. The best
places to do it are by a shrine where you can just do the
ritual of restoration and get your mana filled again for
free."

-Tricks With Ghost Bracelets
"The way I handled the ghost jewelry is I put the
necklace in the open coffin first. The first piece of ghost
jewelry that you place in the coffin disappears. You can
place either the bracelet or the necklace. After placing
the first piece you can place the second piece of ghost
jewelry into the coffin without it disappearing and boost
your karma plus two every time. I stopped at 800 mana. I
seldom had to worry about spellcasting and using up my mana.
It simplified the terms of the game."

-New 1.07 Patch Cheat Bindings
Add these to the DEFAULT.KMP file in your U9 folder like so...
"ctrl+r = recharge_mana"
These two are self explanatory.
recharge_mana
fill_spellbook
The following give you spells respectively. You are also
given every Sigil, The Orb of the Moons and a Bread. Everything
in your backpack is removed when you do these and armor is
reverted back to the Avatar's clothing at the beginning of
the game.

spells_3-5
spells_6-8
-Avatar's House
In the beginning of the game, try work your way over the gate
behind your house. You can climb over the dummy and try to
jump from there, or use some objects lying around and build
a set of stairs. Try baking several loafs of bread and make
a stepping ladder against the rocks. Once you're over, the
tree on the right is hiding a lever in the grasses there.
Hit the lever and a number of teleporters will appear.
The moongates near the Avatar's house will deck you out in
various pieces of armor.
Full set of Raven's Choice Armor
Full set of Blackrock Armor
Full set of Bone Armor
Full set of Magic Armors (Helm of Radiance, Arms of Magi,
Gauntlets of Fury, Troll Chest, Legs of Sentri, Swamp Boots).
The 4 on the other side teleports your to places in Britainnia.
The games will soon enough crash soon after that. This also
works after patch #1.
-Getting All the Runes on Earth
Using the tip above to get the Armor and the Flymode cheat.
Inbetween 8 of the pairs of teleports is each Glyph. They
are just below the surface!
-We Don't Need No Stinking Ladder
"Can't get to a ledge that is too high for you? Don't
bother stacking items. Simply always carry around a staff
in your backpack. When pulling it from your backpack to
a spot on the ground, it'll rest on its end (ie. stick straight
up.) Amaze your friends with your balancing skill by climbing
on top of the staff. This gives you a good 5-6ft (1.5-2m)
boost! Great for going where you're not supposed to. You
can do this with virtually any weapon, but the staff will
get you up higher. Oh, and after you climb up to where you're
going, make sure to reach back down and retrieve your friend
for future use."

-Secret Chests?
Mistr E.,sent in the following.
"There are two chest buried underground by the gypsy
wagon... I can reach the one by the wheel, but not the one
behind it...but the chest near the back is completely submerged
when above ground.... lemme know if you find any significance
to these."
-Mistr E.
-Get a Full Set of Blackrock and Start the Game Normally
First, go to the Gypsy at the Avatar's house on Earth,
and choose your virtue/class. Afterwards, pull the secret
lever behind the Avatar's house, and equip yourself with
armor. Teleport into Brittania, and make your way to the
tower where you enter the world. The tower is actually a
dungeon, and loaded in several segments, so open the door
and walk in, and once it's loaded, activate the flymode
cheat and fly up into the room you first appear in. Remove
your armor, magic items, and anything else you want to keep,
and drop them in that room. Exit the tower the sam eway
you entered, and fly up to the top. On top of the tower
is a teleporter. Enter it, and you will be taken back to
the tower with your stats adjusted for class as if you had
gone through the gypsy's moongate, the proper items in the
chest, AND everything you dropped in the room initially.
Viola..a way to start out with a full set of Blackrock
or Magic armor! This cheat allows you to have your statistics
as given by the gypsy AND start out with all those fun items
from the teleporters behind the avatar's house. Rock ON.
-Quatoria
Also, if you're gonna cheat; you might as well grab that
healing kit in the Avatar's house. It never goes away and
has limitless uses. Never a need to carry heal potions with
this in your beltpack.
There has got to be more secrets with these moongates...
-Potion Descriptions
Black - Invisibility
Blue - Underwater Breathing
Green - Poisonous
Orange - Mana Boost
Purple - Invincibility
Red - Cure Poison
White - Infernal Armor
Yellow - Healing
-Combat exploit?
As long as you have your backpack open, or even a bag, nothing
can attack you...but you can attack them.
-Grabbing Loot from Display Cases
"In fly mode, you can partially enter display cases
at Museums, Stores, and Castles. If you can get your head
inside the glass, and drop out of fly mode, you can grab
the items and weapons in them. BroadSwords, Keys, Jewels,
Etc..."
-Andrew Russell
-Exceeding the 9999 GP Limit
"I had 9,000 gold when I returned to the blacksmith
in trinsic to pick up my blackrock sword. When he gave me
the sword he also refunded me 2000 gold. Afterwards there
was a pile of money on the ground that I couldnt pick up.
However, I noticed the amount of gold I was carrying no
longer showed up on my back pack. I opened my journal and
looked at my vitals. It showed that I had 11,000 gold. I
wanted to see if the shopkeepers would acknowledge my gold
if it exceeded 9999, and found that they did. Another bonus
is that now I can pick up as much gold as I want. I currently
have 20,000 or so. I'm not sure if this works only with
the blacksmith in trinsic or if the same will happen with
the jewler and other NPCs."
-Mark Rampton
-Perma Potion Effects
Drink a potion of Invisibility or Invulerability, save the
game, reload it. The effect is permanent until you drink another
potion.
-Getting Back in the Boat
"At the place where you dive down to get the last
2-hand technique, you can get back into your boat by left-clicking
on it, followed by a brief right click. This will work anywhere
provided that the cursor is green. Of course, you can drown
quickly in deep ocean, so you have to do the whole procedure
quickly."
-Paul Roy
-Problems Picking up Sigils.
"If you end up with an item that you can't pick up
because the mouse cursor wont recognize the item (such as
picking up a sigil like the quill of justice from the shrine)
then: Place another item such as a potion bottle near the
object. You need then cast fireballs or use gust to move
the bottle next to the needed object. Every few casts try
to get the item. Once the potion bottle touches or moves
the item in question it should be obtainable."
-Sengir Dragon
-If you get stuck/fall off the world and save/load doesn't
get you unstuck here is what to do.
1). Go to the directory where you installed U9.
2). Find the file "default.kmp"
3). Open "default.kmp" in notepad 4). Scroll to the section
labelled "[DEVELOPMENT CONTROL COMMANDS]"
5). Underneath the label add the following: f = toggle_avatar_fly
6). Enter the game and hit the "f" key.
7). Manuaver to a place slightly above the ground in a different
spot.
8). Hit the "f" key again.
9). Continue adventuring. Basically this binds "f" to a command
which turns clipping on and off, thus allowing you to fly
around/under/through the world and it's items/terrain...
-Other bindable commands... cheats.
pass_one_hour
unpass_one_hour
sunrise_sunset
pass_one_minute
unpass_one_minute
toggle_sun
toggle_wind
toggle_storms
toggle_avatar_fly
toggle_avatar_fast
toggle_avatar_invulnerable
toggle_avatar_fly
To set up a cheat code, edit the DEFAULT.KMP file in your
Ultima9 Folder.
Example:
ctrl + f = toggle_avatar_fly
-Clipping Plane Adjustments
Scroll down to the lines reading,
;CTRL+leftbracket = clipping_plane_in
;CTRL+rightbracket = clipping_plane_out
;CTRL+\ = clipping_plane_reset
;CTRL+shift+leftbracket = middle_plane_in
;CTRL+shift+rightbracket = middle_plane_out
;CTRL+shift+\ = middle_plane_reset
Uncomment them (remove the ; before each line) This will
allow you to adjust the clipping plane without having to open
the journal.
-About Cheating
An official announcement posted on the OSI message boards.
"I'm seeing that several people have found the ability
to include an in-game fly cheat, and a fast-walking cheat.
I feel it necessary to give you the true scoop on these
and what it can do to your game.
In development, our goal was to get where we needed to
be to test things as quickly as we could, so the fly and
fast walking cheat were wonderful tools.
However, our game is made to played in a certain way. For
example, if you're supposed to walk into a clearing and
have something happen, there is most likely a trigger box
around the entrance to that clearing. The trigger box is
placed in such a way that you can't help but walk through
it, and so the trigger works. However, if you fly, you can
miss these important spots, and some triggers won't work
at all. It can also cause flags not to be set for the same
reason, so someone that's supposed to be in a certain spot
at a certain time won't be there because you somehow flew
past the part that triggered it.
The fast-walk cheat has also been proven to do the same
thing. I know from my own experience that it's possible
to not set off triggers and flags from trigger areas if
you use the fast-walk cheat. In the final QA passes, it
was necessary to do everything the long way, using no cheats,
since that is the only way you can be assured of setting
everything off the way it is meant to be done.
By no means am I insinuating that all bugs are the result
of people using cheats, but if you're using one of these,
and you're having problems with triggers not working, or
the story not seeming to progress correctly, chances are
you might want to try reloading a saved game and not using
those cheats. Hope that helps,

-Speeding through conversations.
Click on the text with the left mouse button or hit the enter
key.
-How do you buy and sell? I have tried clicking on everything
I can think of, but nothing happens.
Click on the little "+" signs next to each item. Then click
on the round red thing on the bottom left to "ok" the trade.
-Tricks with bottles.
Drop a bottle in water and you can climb it!
-Catch a movie for free?
The game CD has the movie files in a folder called "Movies".
Copy one of those movie files (*.dat) to a folder on your
hard disk. Rename the movie to *.mpg. Example....
ambush.dat
to
ambush.mpg
Any movie player capable of playing MPG's will play it. Windows
98 has Media Player... that should do it fine.
-Casting Scrolls
Before you cast a scroll, think about it. Some scrolls only
apear once in the game (Levitate). Wait and get it binded
to your Spell Book.
-If you're afraid to go in the water...
Use your linear Stone spell. Put the spell shortcut on your
beltpack so you can access the spell with one of your F-keys.
Makes easier killings this way.
-Piloting the Ship.
Press the esc key to stop the ship.
-Once you cast 'Light' it seems to run until your mana runs
out. How do you cancel the spell?
Just cast the spell again while standing still.
-Special Attacks
When you find someone to train you (lord British's Castle)
... hold down the ctrl or alt keys in combinations..
-Getting a free bag (exploit?)
To get extra bags... go to the boxing trainer in Bucs Den.
Before you train with him, make sure your backpack and beltpack
are full of items and that you are carrying your weapon.
When you train with him, he will want to take the weapons
from you during the fight... After the fight, when he returns
the items and sees you have no room for them to put in your
bag, he creates another bag for you.
From Redbone
"In the same way, you get a bag or bags from Raven
when she gives you your goods back after going through the
Blackthorne's Prison. I was full with 3 full bags and a
backpack when Blackthorne captured me. I had one bag from
the jail, and after I got my stuff back, I had 6 bags. So,
I got 2 free bags."
This happened to me in Wrong when I met up with Raven there
as she handed me a key.
-How do you get water flasks?
Find one of the wall mounted fountains that appears to be
some kind of head who's mouth is filling the basin below it.
Using left-click & hold movement take one of your empties
and place it under the flowing water in the fountain (you
must 'drop' it there to fill it) - Right after you let go
of your button, left-click & hold to pick the flask up and
move it to your inventory again, it should now show up as
a flask of water.
-Binding Spells without using up Reagents.
When you bind a spell you get asked for the words. When the
window is open, don't type the incantation right away. Take
the scroll and the reagents out of the circle first.... They
won't get used. This way all you have to keep is one of each
reagent...

-Climbin Steep Mountains
Toss a bottle up a bit where you can't jump. Jump on the bottle.
Repeat, lather, rense, make your way to the top of the Steepest
mountains with ease. |
