Lawmakers consider tax on transactions in online games

According to sources within the government, lawmakers are considering to impose a tax on transactions made in online games. One member of the comitee explained: "People are buying and selling houses, mounts, weapons and armor on a daily basis in MMORPGs. We estimate the value of goods in transaction to exceed 1.5 billion dollars a year. This could be a serious source of income for the state and we should not let this opportunity pass."

The tax is rumored to be 7.5% of the value of the transaction. The bill also proposes the need to keep a record of the transactions for at least 3 years. Donations to other players (newbies) will be deductible from the tax. This way the comitee hopes to encourage "positive social interaction" in online communities. We'll keep you updated, of course.
