The Face of Mankind interview with Project Lead Marco Dieckmann elaborates on some issues brought up in recent interviews. Take this answer about "story role-playing" from Marco, for example:
Face of Mankind is not just a gaming environment where players can fight and communicate. It is a game that tells you a story. Our story content is dynamically created and adapted based on actual events caused by players. So, players will have the chance to directly influence the story. Our story is not scripted or of any artificial kind, it is adapted by a team of authors and gamemasters which is their sole task.
There will be an overall storyline, but your missions and content will depend on the organization you have chosen. So an F.D.C. member might interpret the story in another way than a clan member. This offers a lot of suspense. The storylines are created by missions and campaigns. Missions can last over one real week. The leaders of each organization work out huge missions and campaigns every week. The results of these missions will affect the continuing storyline. Every player is connected to the ranking structure of the organization, which is why his or her place is important. There are seven rank stages in FOM, and the rank names depend on the kind of organization. The entire story is not fixed at the beginning, the key is to adapt the story based on actual events in the game world.
Teamwork and cooperation are very important factors. The teams plan their missions and try to get the best results. These results influence their experience points and therefore influence their ranks. Sounds pretty interesting, if you ask me. |
