DAoC Catacombs has an interview with a DAoC hacker - albeit one who doesn't hack the core engine, but tries to sniff data streams in order to present additional information (although his latests hack WILL change the game balance - boo!). Here's a snip:

    2. What are you currently writing for Dark Age of Camelot?

I'm writing Odin's Eye, an interactive network analyzer for DAoC. It shows an overhead map of the area you are in and the players and mobs in your immediate vicinity. It runs on Linux and uses passive network sniffing to pick up the data, meaning it does not interfere or alter the datastream between the server or client in any way. All it does is listen to it and present the information in it's own way (a 2D map), just like the DAoC client itself does (a 3D view).
