Gamespy has posted their post-E3 preview for The Witcher. The editors express a bit of concern that the game has been in production for over two years, is still a year from release and has yet to find a publisher. Even though CD Projekt bristles at the suggestion that this is merely an action-RPG due to the depth and focus of its story and the fact that is has many traditional RPG trappings such as skills, levels, and multiple spells, it's hard to deny the fact that combat is fast and furious with lots of blood, flips, blocks, and spins. The game is controlled primarily through the mouse (although you can use the keyboard if you wish).
Even though it uses Bioware's Aurora engine, which is nearly four years old, the game looks surprisingly good. The Witcher himself is wonderfully animated. In fact, there are over 200 mo-capped animations in the game, and, combined with detailed town and rural landscapes with complete day and night cycles, you have the makings of an atmospheric setting that should help draw players into its world.
