Gamehelper has posted an interview with Patrick Wyatt, Mike O’Brien and Jeff Strain from ArenaNet. You may recall that these guys left Blizzard to start ArenaNet and develop a MMORPG called Guild Wars, which apparently won't have a monthly fee in North America. Here's a clip:[GH] Why is this the time for Guild Wars? Do you see it as the online game everyone will want to play?
ArenaNet Team: There are quite a few reasons why this is the right time for Guild Wars. For one, more and more people are interested in playing online games, but until Guild Wars is released, no developer will be offering a truly competitive online game, one that was built from the ground up for competitive play. We offer the opportunity to play cooperatively, of course, and we have rich single player opportunities as well. But it’s in the competitive play that we think Guild Wars will truly shine. Secondly, the time is right because technological advances allow us to offer a worldwide network rather than splitting gamers into regional servers or shards. Guild Wars will be able to hold true world championships, something no other game can provide. And thirdly, the time is right because we’re able to offer this game to players without a monthly fee. |
