Gamespy is the first to post the E3 official Elveon trailer. Nearly 35Mb in size, you can download it here in either Quicktime or Windows Media Player format. Additionally, there is a preview posted on IGN.
Managing Director Slavo Hazucha walked us through two demos, the first focusing on the duel-based combat system. The medieval high fantasy setting is apparent from the get-go: stylized armor, stone towers and bridges spanning over huge valleys, gargoyles, ancient ruins, and so forth. Beyond simply using a stock implementation of UE3, the team has crafted a hybrid form of SpeedTree (used to rapidly and dynamically generate realistic-looking trees). The art team wanted something more distinct than the relatively generic foliage SpeedTree creates, so tree trunks and roots have been hand-designed to emphasis high fantasy and individual detail. They're also working on foliage collision, so that things like high grass will part around the player as he moves through wilderness. It's an interesting look, so I recommend checking out the screenshots and this pretty neat clip to get a picture of what they're going for. All the structures were built in AutoCAD before being ported into the UE3 engine, which makes for some impressive and realistic architecture, based on what we saw.
