Another A Tale in the Desert playing session will be held today. If you ever wanted to play a real novel MMO then this is the one, so try to make it and play it, it will be worth your time. Here is the detailed info on it:
A Tale in the Desert will be featured on GameSpy today (Thursday).
The last time GameSpy ran an article on us, we had the largest number of new beta test signups ever. This time, we're going to run an all-day play session to coincide with the article. If people like what they read, they'll be able to log in and play immediately.
The play session will go from 2:00PM EST until 10:00PM. I need to ask a favor of everyone who has played before - but
first, let me explain some of the new content that we've added just for Thursday's session:
All day long, Egypt will be celebrating the festival of Geb, the god of the Earth. Throughout the land, there will be huge statues in Geb's image.
All citizens of Egypt are encouraged to make small offerings to Geb to > honor him. The priests at the Great University of Worship have identified over a dozen appropriate offerings: "A taste of Honey", "Seven Flax Seeds", "a Small piece of Quartz", and so on. The citizen that has presented Geb with the widest range of offerings will be presented with a special prize from Pharaoh, during the next session. In the Festival of Geb, exploration and trading will play at least as big a role as building.
"A true leader educates his followers" - Egyptian Proverb

The other, more permanent addition to the game is "The Test of Mentorship" within the Discipline of Leadership. This is the newest of the 49 tests. Mentorship works like this:

    • 1. Mentor begins the test at the Great University of Leadership. (Use the Tests menu)

    • 2. Mentor formally asks a newly arrived citizen if he would like a mentor. (Click on the new player)

    • 3. Mentor coaches the player to perform a list of tasks, including brick making, material gathering, building construction, etc. (Click on the new player to monitor his progress)

    • 4. After completing the tasks, the new player has the option of building a small shrine to his mentor. If he has had several mentors, he may only choose one to honor in his way. Building a mentor shrine is totally optional, and does nothing for the new player - it's purely a gift.

    • 5. A mentor who has been honored with seven such shrines, has passed the Test of Mentorship.

Here's the favor: I'd like everyone who already knows their way around Egypt to spend some time during Thursday's session doing the Test of Mentorship, and helping new players get started. This is a great opportunity to introduce lots of new players to A Tale in the Desert.

    Other stuff:
In the last session, Apophis was able to stop destruction of the Statue of Octec by passing a law making it illegal to harm the ancient statue.
The battering ram that was constructed (and operated for a while) still stands. The scientists at the Great University of Leadership hinted at the existence of some sort of chamber below the statue, but with the law, there is no way to reach it. Lots of additional content has been added, for everyone to discover.
As always, drop by #ATITD on irc.stratics.com:6667 for chat, and for unannounced game sessions. Work done by your character in these "dev sessions" doesn't get saved, but if you're interested in how "Ancient Egypt" is being built, this is the place to learn. As I write this, there are a dozen or so people online. If you've never played, or haven't played since 9/22/2001, the latest client can be downloaded from our home page: http://www.ataleinthedesert.com

    On the Nile,
    Teppy
