Thanks to Snoekie for pointing out IanStorm where a bunch of UXO information can be found, primarily from forum tidbits where members of the UXO dev team have visited their forums. Here's a sample from Jonathan "Calandryll" Hanna:
Q: Also, from what I gather, there is indeed some sort of "Open Zone" where everyone can gather. Am I right in assuming there will be some sort of WBB-type area that's congested, laggy, and metropolitan? I do so enjoy reciting game-themed poetry and recieving responses of either gold or heckling. In addition, if I am right about there even BEING an open zone, will there be an open hunting zone as well? So that I can show of my amazing monster-killing skills, or heal a fellow adventurer in need in the depths of the dungeons of... Uh... I dunno, dungeons of dungeoneyness.
A: There isn't just an open zone, the entire world is public. Just to be clear, this isn't a game where you hang out in some public area and then go fight in private zones. So you can go anywhere in the world and be with other players. The only time you go into a private version of a map is when you are on a quest or in a guild battle. Other than that, you can go anywhere and fight anything in any public area.
