Morrowind: Some words on the editor

Our fourth part of the Morrowind preview will not be out before the end of the week, because a lot of real life work will block me the next few days, but I thought I should share my initial impressions with you.

I have to mention that I got the editor without a manual. There is an online help file with the version I received (it's just an alpha version, btw), but this only cover dungeon building, and even there it is omitting essential things like keyboard shortcuts, how to do the things I am told to do and such. I really hope that the editor will ship with a manual, else a lot of people will be totally lost :-).

Nevertheless, using trial and error I at least managed to do some basic landscape editing. I added a small peninsula to Vvardenfall (really small, app. 1000 square meters over all), and textured it, put a house on it, a tree and a rock. The house has no interior - so the things I did are VERY basic indeed. The good news: once you KNOW how to do something, it is remarkably easy. A skilled person will be able to build small modifications fast. Those who thought you would be able to rebuild Daggerfall: yes, but only if eternal life is gifted to you *g*. How Bethesda handcrafted the complete island of Vvardenfall remains a secret to me - I guess they had 30 people working two years on that.

I will use my spare time to dig deeper into the editor over the coming days, but what I can tell you now is: yes, it is the power tool they promised to us.
