Today, Cabal had the following to say on the Lionheart forum:Type of quests
A topic near and dear to my heart.
Since I don't think many of you want to hear specific quests, I can start by answering what kind of quests I like.
Quests that really stand out to me are the ones that force you to make a moral choice, where you decide whether to spare someone, to steal from them, to keep that quest object or return it to the proper owner, to turn someone into the authorities or protect their identity. Some of these choices represent a good path, some a neutral path, and others a dark path, but even the dark solutions to quests are viable (although any of these solutions might have consequences attached to them).
In general, there will be short quests that can be solved in and around the same area, and far-reaching quests of various lengths that require you to travel to different areas, and several very large epic quests that will seperate the casual from the hard-core. Also, there will be some quests that close off to you when you make certain choices, so not everyone will be able to experience them all in one game.
I think that's as vaguely specific as I can get without breaking out the spoiler wand.
The Character
We are planning to allow the player to customize the appearance of the character (in addition to choosing a portrait).
As for the character's background, the character is unique because of the tie with Richard's background, but you'll discover that your beginning in Lionheart will be a humble one. That's as vaguely specific as I can get right now.
Dragons and the Armada
My apologies, but there must have been an error in that E3 report that we didn't catch. The English do not unleash dragons on the Spanish Armada. At the beginning of the game, the Armada is preparing for war. The invasion occurs later in the game after your own journey is well under way.
You will have to play the game to learn the true fate of the Duke of Medina Sidonia and his Spanish fleet...
Flying machines?
It has a role in the game, but you won't be able to fly it.
Magic
I'll touch on a few of these now and more later.
- Most spirits act as the power source for magic. You are free to pursue the different fields of magic as you wish.
- It is possible for someone to access all of the magic fields, though doing so could require considerable skill points.
- Spirits generally don't occupy a vessel that has already bound with another spirit. Such things are possible though (although this could negatively affect the host..)
Locations outside Europe
Ok, you will have a chance to see environments that are not on the continent of Europe, in addition to the areas you'll visit in Western Europe.
Combat scaling
Our engine is going to be using a system we call mojo that will gauge your power and dynamically adjust many of the encounters so that the game is not *too* hard or *too* easy. That being said, this system is very flexible, so we can create a great deal of variance in the combats. The plan is not to scale perfectly. There will be some instances where you'll fight more of lesser creatures, others when you'll face a handful of middling foes, or possibly a single enemy of equal, lesser, or greater power. There will be times in the game where you will be able to flex your omnipotence and feel very powerful, and there will times when, if you show up unprepared, an enemy will taunt you, beat you, taunt you again, and remove your spleen under unsterile conditions.
A Dibalo clone?
Did you catch the blurb about the deep storyline?
We've been pretty open that the game has combat and action, but I've also gone to lengths to explain that we're adding in many quests, factions, historical story elements and interesting characters and other features to balance the combat.
I'm going to continue to try to impress that the game is not a Fallout sequel and it's not a Diablo clone. We're endeavoring to make a new and unique game with the Special system called Lionheart. |
