TFH Gaming has the first part of their Neocron Beta Report up at their site now. They describe the first few hours into the game there. Here's a part:
Having gone through the German language install (!!) and a fairly painless auto-patching, I was presented with a standard character set-up. I was given a choice of 4 styles of character, Tank, Private Eye, Psi-Monk and Spy; I went with the latter and was then given a choice of one of numerous factions to be part of. The idea of being a goody-goody character didn't appeal to me so I signed on the dotted line for the Dragon Clan, a bit of drug dealing and dodgy property deals sounded interesting…as did my factions intention to move into the prostitution business! Having chosen a Spy, 3 more choices of class branched from this, shying away from the more aggressive Assassin I chose to be a Private Investigator…so I will be able to investigate things, privately I assume. Abilities are divided into 5 groups, Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence and Psi-Power, each of these sub headings then branches out, eg Constitution holds categories such as Endurance, Health etc… The way you 'level-up' is very straight forward, if you hit things with a baseball bat a lot then you get points for your Dexterity and Strength, if you get hit with a baseball bat a lot then you get points to spend in your Constitution category, simple and effective, you can only get better at something if you practice at it. My character had been deemed to be a computer nerd, I'll hack anything you want me to, just don't ask me to implant anything or fight anything bigger than a rat and I'll be fine. Donning my shades, leather jacket and brown trousers I picked up my hacker tool and set out into my apartment. |
