Today's feature at RPGVault is the seventh Q&A with Todd Howard about Morrowind, Bethesda Softworks' upcoming RPG from the Elder Sctolls universe. Here's a bit:
Jonric: What can players expect to see in terms of opponents' combat AI? Will adversaries do things like retreat or flee when injured, call for help, and attack in packs but not alone? Will there be different difficulty settings?
Todd Howard: They choose how they should fight based on their own skills and what they can do well, so if you make an NPC in the Construction Set, he should behave correctly depending on what skills you give him and the items he has. They choose a strategy after each attack, which includes melee combat, ranged combat (bows and such), magic, ranged magic, or fleeing. They move between these states depending on what happens to them. They don't really call for help, but a fight in general will get the attention of others. There isn't any difficulty setting right now since the game is level based, and you can just go out and get more powerful. We may add one later if needed. |
