Voodooextreme posted a new developer diary for Morrowind. It's done by Mark Nelson and talks about quests. Pretty interesting stuff, if you ask me:
One of my favorite challenges has been to write the quests associated with the various Daedra that have a presence in Morrowind. Daggerfall established a tradition of summoning a Daedra who would then send you on a quest and give you a reward. I wanted to do something a little bit different, while still remaining true to the established traditions. I wanted each of the Daedric quests to relate in an appropriate way to the associated Daedra. It didn't make sense for Molag Bal to have you rescue a princess in a tower--that's not his gig at all. So, I studied up on some of the mythology I'd read throughout the years, and I looked at how the gods traditionally interacted with mortals and with each other. Then I read up on Daedra, and what I couldn't find, I made up. Gotta love how that works. I tried to design quests that give you a sense that you are really working for the Daedra who has given you the quest, that deal with the themes that the particular Daedra embodies. Hopefully, these quests will help give a sense of the rich lore that has been developed over all of the Elder Scrolls games...and will let you get your hands on some pretty sweet artifacts. |
