The third part of RPG Vault's 'The Witcher' interview with CDProjekt Studio Director Michal Kicinski and external Designer Ryslaw Chojnowski, is now online. Here's a clip:Jonric: How important will weapons be? Will the player character be able to use anything other than a sword? And how about armor?
Ryslaw Chojnowski: Even though the witcher is skilled mostly in sword combat, it doesn't mean that he cannot wield other weapons. In the game, you'll find a vast array of axes, maces, clubs, warhammers and other melee arms. Yet, as fighting using these weapons differs considerably from sword combat, you won't be able to use most of the special attacks. However, it may still be useful to attack with an axe or hammer for example, as it may deal greater damage or be more efficient against particular type of enemy. Maces or other blunt weapons are effective against zombies, drowned dead and other monsters that can resist slashing attacks.
The witcher can also wear many different types of clothing that change his in-game appearance and sometimes even his attributes or abilities. You can put on various types of studded leather, hand protectors (gauntlets, knuckles, bracers) and boots.
I should stress here that witchers rely on speed and agility, and they are not proficient with heavy armor, which means that they do not use breastplates, scale or full plate mail. Wearing such armor will mean serious penalties to the witcher's agility and his combat abilities. |
