ActionTrip and others (thanks also Assassin from Computergames.ro) are reporting a "leaked press release" purportedly from Blizzard that reveals a 'World of Warcraft' expansion titled 'Northrend' will be unveiled at E3. Here's a snip:Irvine, Calif. - Monday, March 28, 2005 - Blizzard Entertainment® today announced their plans to debut World of Warcraft®: NorthrendT the first expansion to World of Warcraft®, its award winning massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). The expanion will add new player races, a new faction and a whole new continent for players to explore.
"We are very excited about this." said Mike Morhaime, president of Blizzard Entertainment. "World of WarCraft has been a tremendous worldwide success and we look forward to giving our customers much more content to explore. The expansion will further the game's storyline in conjunction with free content that Blizzard plans to release in the coming months."
While Blizzard hasn't denied the rumours outright, these quotes from WoW General Discussion forum seem to pour cold water on the idea:We have no problems with the discussion, so long as everyone is aware this was not an announcement made by Blizzard, and we are not sure where this rumor originated.[...]
A 3rd faction is not in the plans. Not only would a 3rd faction require an incredibly large amount of new content, all current content would also have to be changed, added, updated, rebalanced. While it would be a creative challenge, it opens up too many possibilities for error. Thanks to Blue's for the forum quotes. |
