IGN Vault has posted an E3 preview of Final Fantasy 11. Quite detailed it is, and here's a bit for you about death:
Dying is certainly something people will want to avoid, as it can have a severe penalty in terms of XP. Exact numbers were not given, though it was mentioned that that upon death, you would lose a certain percentage of your XP based on your level, then respawn at the town where you last touched a 'save' crystal previously. As a result of death and losing XP, going back in levels is also possible, similar to Everquest's death system. A further thing mentioned was a spell that would allow you to save your XP so you didn't lose as much on death, though no exact numbers were given. One notable difference between Final Fantasy XI and Everquest's death penalty system is that you will no longer need to go and do corpse recovery runs, as there are no items dropped on death. |
