RPGVault has published the next Mimesis Online Dev Diary, where Derek Hanley talks about the start of the beta:
At a certain point during the development of the game, a few of us at the studio became enamoured of a certain idea on the way to organize and run the Beta Tests of the game, and the more we thought about it, the more we felt that was the way to go. It seemed to be the best way to make the testing process work for us, and to turn it into more than a stress test or a limited time only bug hunt. So, when the day came, we went for it. The way it works is this: the tests have been organized into several stages - I would like to have tried for seven, for various reasons, but there's more - and each stage has a different focus. In the first stage, for example, the focus is on the graphics, combat, and the really technical stuff that the players shouldn't be that aware of when they are playing. When we have this tested, debugged and ready, we'll add something - the medical skills and healing powers, a few more creature species, another PC race - and focus on how they work, and what needs to be done with them. That'll be stage two. Each stage will see more added and will involve more testers, with the final stage being a test of every element of the game. The stages will be short, and each should be an intensive, thorough test of the material. |
