Like the Borg, Deus Ex: Invisible War has assimilated Gamespy...or is it the other way round? Anyway, Gamespy has another DX2 feature entitled Pile On where various Gamespy staff speak about their experiences with the game. It's a mixed bag, although most are positive in the end:Dave "Fargo" Kosak, Editorial Director:
It does offer lots of great gameplay, but I can understand peoples' initial reaction to the title. The interface isn't just dumbed down -- it's a liability! At the default settings it takes up so much screen real estate that you feel as though you're playing the game while looking through a cardboard tube. Ben had to show me how you can "hide" the interface by setting the opacity to 0% -- then it'll only appear when you're selecting items, which is the only time you really need it. The controls also require a lot of tweaking before you can comfortably select and switch weapons and items. It's a shame, because this creates a negative first impression, whereas if you can look past it the gameplay is outstanding. There's also an 80Mb movie with Gamespy editors discussing/reviewing the game here. |
