GameSpy has conducted an interview with Westwood's Audio Director Paul Mudra, as he talks about the use of NPC audio dialogue and music in Earth and Beyond. Here's a piece:
GameSpy: On average how many lines of dialogue do major NPCs have?
Paul Mudra: The system is set up to use what we call a "talk tree system." There are different lines that can branch into different areas of the dialogue tree from the storyteller NPCs, based upon the responses the player gives. So, instead of going through the dialogue in a linear fashion, we had to record based upon what the player may choose to do in any of his or her actions. The dialogue tree is definitely bigger than one of our RTS games, but not quite as big as our Blade Runner game which was very dialogue intensive. If we had recorded dialogue for every NPC, then the tree would have far surpassed anything that we have done in the past. |
