IGN PC has a nice, large preview of the english version of Gothic. The preview goes through the basic story leading up to the game, what the game is like, how the controls are, and some more bits of info. Heres a snippet:

Classified as an action RPG, Gothic is heavy on the action and questing, characteristics of gameplay made possible by the title's simplified, almost Tomb Raider-esque control scheme, at least in terms of general wandering, where player handling is done via a simple and entirely keyboard interface. Forward and back move forward and back respectively; left and right turn your character in those directions; strafing is accomplished by using the jump button in conjunction with either left or right arrow keys to strafe in those directions; and, climbing is done by way of simply walking up to the surface wished mounted and pressing jump. It's also Tomb Raider-ish in that the camera is set in a fixed position following the player, and looking is done only through a first person toggle where movement is not allowed (basically the standard, expected set of stuff).

Check it out if interested right here.
