German print mag Gamestar also managed to catch up with Starr Long at the Game Developer Conference. They asked him about 'Tabula Rasa', the working title of an MMORPG he and Richard Garriott are developing for Korean NCSoft. There hasn't been much talk about 'Tabula Rasa' lately and some people were afraid that the two designers were involved in making an English version of 'Lineage'.
This is what Starr Long told Gamestar (another reverse translation attempt):
"Richard is spending 90% of his time on developing our new game - in my case it's 100%." - The specialty of 'Tabula Rasa': All players of a server meet in a so called central "Social Hub" to bargain and to chat with each other. From there, they can teleport themselves with up to 10 party members to play mini missions that can have their own rules. "That's how we solve the problem of typical online RPGs where everyone plays the exact same missions and is left with the feeling of having no real impact on anything." The servers, the tech stuff as well as the bargaining and combat system are basically finished. Release is scheduled for the end of 2004. Detailed information will be made available in fall 2003. "We decided from the beginning to not reveal any info about the game. Actually, I've told you way too much already..." |
