Magic is the key to the new title - once your wizard is defeated, your cause is lost, so protecting him is vital to success. A vast portion of the power available to each player also comes through their wizard. He controls the spells that can change the course of the battle, so caution must be tempered with risk. The spells can only be cast within a certain radius around a wizard, although if you recruit a hero to your cause, they can also be cast within a smaller radius around them, making them a useful strategical tool. Heroes also come with an in-built role-playing element. As they progress, they gain in levels and available power, which can be channelled into various aspects of their character, such as spellcasting, combat and so forth. It goes without saying that careful development of balanced heroes can be vital to campaign success. |
