The graphics are nice but that soon wears off. Combat is simplistic (a design goal) and boring. Many bugs remain and the game is poorly balanced. I will wait a while and see what they can do to improve gameplay but I am very pessimisitic. |

Yes, there were bugs and some stability problems at launch but most of that has been worked out. I find the game an enjoyable experience. The graphics are top notch and the combat can be more advanced than click and watch. There are special abilies that take vigor to use that you will gain through levels by training them that spice combat up well. The world is large and there's much to explore. The quest system is fantastic. There are some minor balancing issues but those shold be worked with by the next patch. |

ICK! I can't believe I purchased this... this... thing. I also can't believe the latency issues with this game. Horrid, reminds me of AO, well atleast this is playable - (Throws a spitball at Funcom) - The graphics are great, but, horrible if you dont have top notch hardware. Even if you do have a high end pc, you will still lag out because of the dern latency issues! I am sorry but gameplay is by far more important than graphics IMO. But this game is horrid until they atleast make it so there is no lag when your on a cable modem or better. :P |

As my first MMORPG, I have found it extremely easy to pick up and a helluva lot of fun. Contrary to some reviews, the combat is NOT as simplistic as the combat in Dungeon Siege; there are tactical decisions to make. Admittedly, though, it doesn't have as much combat depth as, say, a Black Isle D&D RPG. There are only two problems from my point of view: the inventory system could be more facile, and the server lag can be awful at times. If they could do something about the server lag, I'd give the game 9.8 out of 10. |

Seems like this review was written before the Jan. patch. Citys are rebuilding (slowly,) some bug have been squashed, more musical instruments have been added, (no mention of these in the review,) and a few new quests. But generally, the feeling that the live team is following through on the promise of a dynamic world. I like it. The combat gets very tactical at the mid levels, and if you are playing a click-once game you'll die a lot. Not revolutionary, but very playable, and the community on some of the less populated servers is mature and interesting. |

Who said that this is the second generation MMORPG? The same as EQ, AO etc just VERY simplified and with HEAVY graphics. All promises of new content are just words so far... The bottomline is - the old "swit" in a new box, for fools - enjoj! But it is fun to see all rewievers to bend up before Microsoft - nobody can say a word against it openly |

I dont see why people say that this game has good graphics, because it dont. The animations are crappy, the models are "ok", the environment is only nice in SOME spots (the only reason they look good in the screen shots, is b/c they only show the spots that DO look good) and the spell effects are terrible (Asherons call 1 is what? 3-4 older than this and it has better spell effects). The only thing that i thought looked somewhat detailed was the water. THe gameplay is one of the worst ive yet to experience. The game is unbelievably linear, and has no point b/c theres no fun in it. Unless you find it a triumph to kill simplistic AI with ease and without a challenge, i guess it could be fun . . . or NOT. The highest level you can get to is 50, and people are already there. All of the players turn out pretty much the same once you reach 50, b/c the skill system is so linear. Turbine said there would be 300+ "skills". Now im sure most people thought they were talking AC1 language . . . but they werent. If you were to use AC1 language regarding skills, this game only has 3 or 4 skills. They are bow, melee and magic (which is pretty much the same as bow, but just with a limited range to shoot, along with bursts that do somewhat more damage.) B/c of the small variety of different types of weapons, i guess you could say 10 skills in AC1 language, but still, AC1 has what? 90+ skills?. The map/level is VERY small, and doesnt compare to the 1st AC in size (not counting the expansion pack). You cant go in any of the buildings, not to mention that the towns are pretty much 90% of the time deserted. One character can spend their whole time out in the wilderness for their whole game time camping the spawn of a monster b/c theres no reason to go back to town. The quests arent any better than the regular AC, and dont have anything more to offer. The list goes on about how crappy this game is. Dont believe the reviews, remember this game is made by microsoft, so im guessing that they made SOME kind of deal with the reviewers. Face it, this game is just a quickly whipped up attempt to get some extra bucks with minor flashy graphics. They threw together some crappy skill system in spite of all there time on the graphics (which like I said, werent good after all). This game has less to offer than the first AC in all aspects just mind a few things that dont matter. Gameplay makes a game not graphics. I talk to people every day and the amount of people playing is dropping day by day b/c this game SUCKS. There are some people that just play b/c they just too stubborn to admit what a crappy game it is. Yeah, dont give me the excuse that Turbine is going to do updates, b/c they cant change the whole game. This is what it would take to improve it. I expected more from turbine seeing the results of AC1 . . . but this . . . this is just pure crap. Dont buy it . . . unless you just want something to take your anger out on and smash. |

AC2 has shown me how much fun an MMORPG can be from level 1-30. Then once I hit level 30 all the excitement wears off, the quests are few and often repeated. If they can just get the content patches out fast enough, and large enough, this game should be great from level 1-50. For now plan on becoming really bored after level 30 and then cancelling your account until they add lots of new high level content.
As far as graphics go and needing a high end system to play it on, well considering how nice the graphics are the system requirements are not that bad. Play UT2K3 and you will find the same kind of graphics but the graphics run smoother in AC2.
Also I cranked all the graphics up in Star Wars Galaxies Beta and the graphics look better in AC2. The funny thing is with the graphics cranked up in SWG to max I could barely move, I would say about four frames per second. AC2 maxed out still runs smooth and looks better then Star Wars Galaxies. Lets hope the team developing SWG will optimize their game engine before release.
Next to FFXI Online, AC2 after several content patches, will be the best MMORPG out this year.
Shadowbane needs lots of work, SWG is way to early in beta to even consider them making the release date. FFXI is fantastic and if it launches before AC2 gets the content in I will play that instead. |

This game is going through a bit of a roller-coaster ride right now and many players fell that it was released too early - nothing new there ;). The actual storyline begins next month and the devs are planning on additing more features (like mounts which can be used in combat & will go anywhere) in the next few months. The potential is there, but it's still early days content-wise. |

Like the reviewer said, graphics do not make a game. While I do agree that they do help get a player more immersed in the game world, the game mechanics also have to keep the player immersed which I find severly lacking in AC2.
If you love online hack and slash games, look no further than AC2. |

Grats on an accurate review that hits all the major points correctly.
The game is very pretty and initially engaging, but once you've done the 2-3 things available in the game, it becomes evident how simplistic, shallow and unchanging AC2 is - after 2 months there's nothing left for me to =DO= in the game that I haven't already done 100 times before. Hunt and craft. That's it.
But the most disappointing thing for me is the so-called "storyline". I purchased AC2 because it was said to have a Dynamic, Evolving World =influenced by player action=. In fact, it has NOTHING like that. The "story", conveyed to players in slide-shows, has NO RELATIONSHIP at all to Daily Gameplay. Very very disappointing.
Without a Dynamic, evolving, player-influenced storyline, AC2 is boring and repetitive and not at all compelling or different or interesting enough to keep me playing. |

AC2 is a good game: not perfect, but good. I like the ease of use, elimination of starter stats and restrictive classes, and the lack of item loss on death.
I don't like the hack 'n' slash treadmill or minimal content. Fortunately, both of these could be addressed over time with additions from the montly updates. |

This is my first MMORPG. I loved it. Yes, it was easy to pick up and it looks great. I don't have any lag issues and i can turn up the graphx to the highest settings with only slight stutter (when numerous PC's are on screen). After playing for a couple of week, bough EQ Gold - to have something to compare to. Now, both are great. EQ has a lot of content already there, a lot of people online and a whole lot of equipment, spells, commands etc that takes a long time to get familiar with. I would say that both games are great but really cannot compare to each other - therefore AC2 deserves a high rating for 'doing it differently'. I will say that EQ is highly buggy and laggy, and AC2 is several steps ahead here. |

Looks kinda pretty and that's it , unplayable because a lot of quests require a "fellowship" or group of people to finish it and that's what's simply lacking on the European servers, players. So for once it's not the lag, very hard to get lag when there are only 8-9 people online. What it comes down to is a $12.95/mo single player online game, where progress is impossible. |

Decent graphics
Horrible combat system
Horrible "skill" system
Boring as hell after first couple days.
AC2 should never have been born, it should have been a graphics/content expansion pack for AC1 I never understood why they seperated from an already good game, and tried for a part 2 instead of making 1 even better to attract more subscribers. (take hints from EQ guys)
You'll be way happier with AC1 then you will ever be with this game. |

Jessica is lying through her teeth in her interview.
the results have been good in that balance is now better for grouping, soling and for PvP players, and they’ve been telling us so.
The goal of the changes and nerfs were to nerf any traits characters had that allowed them to solo. Soloing is still possible if you don't want get get any XP to level at mid and higher levels.
I played this game and tried to stick it out until August when I grew tired of playing something I didn't enjoy. The chat still doesn't work after 9 months, the new content for higher levels is too difficult for 3 full fellowships to do, and as I said, you can only solo the creatures that don't give you enough XP to blow your nose.
I have played MMORPG's for 6 years now on a daily basis and I have to say, AC2 is among the worst I have seen. |

Graphics are not top notch, good, I can run this with a poor machine and still have some quality (I have a 750mhz PC with a 16meg vid card). Graphics seem nice enough to last for a long time...
Latency, yes well, on very crowded areas, they are reducing mobs per square, good again.
Game has a chat problem for a long time, they are working on it but it will always be a big stain, a game without chat is a Solo game.
They add Content each month, overall gaming is getting beter and lvl 50 player will have a bunch of stuff to do for now on, Great!
Thumbs down to only a special thing Jessica said, "Quest of Radiant Enlightment" as an exciting quest....wasting a bunch of hours killing way to powerfull golems ( some players don't even have to kill them, nice balance hum? ), to do an crappy armor ( below normal stats from same level treasure ) with same graphic as any other but with different color....
July content is very cool, you only missed in the reward for the most time consuming quest ever. |

all pr-stuff aside, the reality is,the game suffers from a very small population, forced - grouping and other errors in development have long sice driven the majority of the player-base away from a one time high, many months ago,of near 8k +, to now barely 1400 combimed on all servers at prime time. Dont be fooled by some mini-pr campaign. This game is not worth your time,or the monthly fee (welfare check) you would be sending them to continue working on it. Some of the things in that projection for the months to come, fyi, were supposed to have been done, based on earlier projections,so I wouldnt hold-my-breath waiting . |

Well, where do I start. I have been playing the game since Beta. We went through nearly 10 months of broken chat, that is to say, we could not communicate within groups, or allegiances (guilds) at all most of the time. The game is going through many many many total class overhauls. You can log in after a patch and find your favorite character that you spent months on completely reset and given a choice of skills to choose fom that you have never seen before. Not only that, but players that find an XP or other exploit in the game can be permanently banned from the game (23 were in October/November 2003). The low and dwindling server populations forced a server merger (otherwise you could log in and see only 100 people on a server) and Turbine is continually removing solo content in favor of group and PvP content. The classes are very subdued, no class stands out as a great melee, or great missle, or mage class, not to mention that one of the most popular classes, the Tactician, was completely nerfed and 90% of the players that were Tacts, RECLASSED because their class became unplayable. Turbine has fixed the Tact now, but it is nothing like its former self. New players to the game will enjoy the first 25 levels, but the next 125 levels are pure repeat hack and slash, with no content, no shops, horrible crafting and items that are bland to say the least. Spell graphics are nearly nonexistant, especially compared to the lower tech AC1 that I played for over a year. This game requires no thought to play whatsoever, and is really best described and a 3rd person hack and slash and not an RPG. The storyline that is shown on the box, and in the in game slide shows, has NOTHING to do with game play at all, it is just a story that someone wrote and made art for to fill up your time and adds no content. Those of you that were hoping for the new model of AC1 will be sorely disappointed. Base skills like speed, jumping, strength, mana, etc. cannot be changed or influenced in any way. Every Enchanter or Bowman, or whatever are basically identical at the same level. There is no way for a player to custom adjust their skills to give them a playstyle advantage. In PvP, the higher level character usually wins unless he is a gimp. Cut and dry - the game is Hexen modernized. Fun for a couple of months, but when your mind begins to crave intelligent content, it all falls apart. Jess and the dev team do not reply to the hundreds of posts begging for content and other things, in fact, the devs seem to ignore the official MS/Turbine boards for the most part. This months patch was a Disaster (War) where everyone who wanted to participate in the months "big" content had to be level 50, and be willing to go PvP!!!! The PvP servers are dead and will all be combined in a last ditch effort to save those servers and worlds. The game is a flop - don't buy it, go play someone else's account (if you can find someone) to try it. If you are a hack/slasher, you might like it, if you are an RPGer like me, you will hate it.

Most negative reviews are from ppl who played it for a few hours. after 1.5 years there is loads of content, the combat is quite good, the graphics are amazing, the game is based more on community play needing different char types to fellow together and imo is the way these games are meant to be. Meeting, fighting with and cooperating with other ppl makes the good times in this game hard to beat. If you want to play solely by yourself then why play an MMO? On the downside it can be laggy and low populations on some servers need to be addressed. Turbine has bought the licence from MS and it in the process of marketing the game properly. |

I dont see that much lag. I do occasionally but by the sounds of others not as much as them. Best game i have ever played. I guess having real life friends playing on the game ups the fun factor. Allows for hours upon hours of gameplay. People are just compaining about it b/c they dont know how to play it. Once I learned how to play it I never stopped. And also aprevios comment said that the highest level you can get is 50.WRONG!!! I know people over level 200! All of their stats maxed out but for all their stats to max out it took a couple of years. You can play this game as long as you want and still level. Why AC2 is the best MMORPG for me:
1. No Caps
There is a theoretical level cap of 150 but it’s so hard to level that no one will ever reach it. So there is no real level cap. Also there is no ‘Max Damage’ cap like some other games have.
2. Crafting skills are free for all and no one have to choose between a crafter and adventurer. You can be a master crafter in all crafting groups if you have enough time to get your level up.
3. Un-train ability
You can un-train the whole class and become a other class if you class becomes boring. You don’t have to make alts just to try out something different.
4. Server wide Chat rooms
You can communicate to the whole community on the server with server wide chat rooms.
5. Monthy Updates
With each monthly update the game is improving and more content is coming in.
6. PvP Environment where not everyone is the same level
In PvP your level matters. If you made it to high level you rule. That’s a great reward for levelling.
7. Fast transportation to wherever you wanna go
No need to travel for hours to get somewhere
8. Patron / Vassal System
The Patron/Vassal System boosts the relationship between the players
9. Many other points like graphic, fast combat, etc.
So if this sounds interesting to you just try it out and consider if AC2 suites to you J

No other game also has the dev interaction, monthly updates (on a regular basis) and story that this game has. I am proud to give it 10/10, i'd give it 11/10 if i could. Played since it went live, never left it yet, and of course, tried all the other garbage out now and it doesn't compare |
