Thanks to Rosethorn from Warcry for letting us know that they have put up a review of 'SpellForce'. Rating: 8.5/10.
RPGs and RTSs are each lovely acronyms. While the RPG gamer is fighting dragons and raising his avatar to a life of glory and nifty armor, the RTS gamer is tending a horde of little minions who scurry across the land, catering to his or her every whim. Each genre has its distinct charms and, inevitably, an attempt at fusing the two would occur. Any bean-counter worth his beans has to light up with joy at the notion of selling tons of games to the obsessive RPGers and RTSers who walk the realm called Gaming. Spellforce is this game, a mad scientist's fusion of strategy and role-playing, and is quite a good one. It’s a successful fusing of RPG-lite a la Dungeon Siege and full-featured RTS a la Age of Empires, a combination of flavors like a good sub, but not a melding of distinct parts into something new and wonderful, like a s’more.
