EGLive has posted a review of the Gamecube version of EA's LotR: The Third Age. The score is 8/10 and here's a clip:I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, EA has the money to really support a games development. This shines through in the presentation of this game, but for some reason, isn’t as spectacular as their previous Lord of the Rings installment, Return of the King. The menus are pretty simple in this game, even bordering on bland in some cases. The box art isn’t that great either, it just doesn’t stand out from the rest of the generic fantasy game cases. The games art style, however, is gorgeous. Borrowing locales and character designs from the films, the game looks and feels just like the movies. And this time around, the plot is different. You’ll lead your band of travelers in the fresh footsteps of the Fellowship, and every now and then you’ll get to fight alongside one of them. The plot isn’t that great, more of an excuse to take you to the cool locales and areas of Middle Earth. The plot sometimes conflicts with the storylineOverall, the presentation isn’t horrible, just not up to EA’s previous efforts. |
