Cleve Blakemore has updated the Grimoire site, since another release date was missed:7/6/02 Another release date missed ... business as usual
So, here we are on July 7th and the game is still underway. We have yet to get it back into beta testing and there is a lot of editing still in progress on the scenario. The artwork has progressed considerably featuring an all new look for the interface plus lots of "forever postponed" features like the map atlas are finally done!
What amazed me on July 4th was that 10,000 people visited the site to see if the game was ready. What was also amazing was not that I got some critical emails, but that I got so many emails of reinforcement and encouragement. Believe it or not, there are a lot of people out there who would like to play Grimoire or a game like it. We got email from all over the world from people who told us not to be discouraged because we missed our target release date.
Here is some good news. After five years of trying to get it correct and paying for several different versions, we finally got the map atlas drawn the way that we wanted with the look we wanted. After five years of trying to figure out the best way to do map transitions, we hatched a new parallax view to present new areas in the diorama as features on the horizon - it looks stunningly beautiful! Our new artist, Jarrod, is nothing short of a wunderkind who has singlehandedly cleaned up nearly every single complaint we have had and is busy right now doing artwork so gloriously atmospheric it will make your teeth hurt to look at it. Jarrod is fixing up those damned forests so the art looks more natural and less contrived. He is touching up special features to enhance the interfaces and the dialogs in the game. Basically, he is a one man graphic army and he is repairing things that have needed it for a long time. Jarrod will be doing some new monsters shortly and touching up others ... we reckon some of these will blow your socks off when you see them.
From now on, no more release date projections until the game has come out of beta testing. Until then, we don't want to set up any more disappointments. We predict this fall may see the release of the greatest classic roleplaying game of all time and wouldn't it just be the ants pants if it was on Halloween? Of course, you didn't hear that from me. |
