Lords of EverQuest has met with a lukewarm response at GamerDad with their review tossing out a score of 3/5:It seems like most successful games these days are spawning genre-busting sister-titles that attempt to corner another section of the game market. With the possible exception of Final Fantasy Tactics, they usually fail miserably. Command And Conquer, was great but Command And Conquer Renegade was not. Fallout was fantastic, but Fallout: Tactics was merely passable. Might And Magic was an awesome RPG franchise, but the action title Crusaders Of Might And Magic was terrible. Publishers get blinded by the value of the “brand” instead of the value of game play. What publishers of these offshoot gaming misfires usually fail to realize is that gamers have specific reasons why they enjoy a certain game, and those reasons don’t often translate to another genre. Lords Of EverQuest is real-time strategy game with some light RPG elements that simply does not have enough going-for-it to break this trend. |
