Baldur's Gate: 6/10 points |
When I played it I felt like I was playing some kind of a bigger Diablo. It's not very original, but it's nicely made. In this style I much prefer Planescape:Torment though. Also it aged badly. |
Elder Scrolls 3 - Morrowind: 7/10 points |
Excellent game with tons of things to do and a great freedom for customizing your character. The graphics are amazing, and not only technically but artistically.
The only problem I have with it is the lack of NPC interaction: there are thousands of them, but not a single one with a real pesonality. There are absolutely no dialogues which is an important flaw for a RPG.
However there are some excellent home-made quests out there that will fill in that void. |
Gothic 2: 1/10 points |
The story is the same as a thousand other games: fetch the artifact to fight the demonic villain. And all the subquests have the same originality. Everything's so predictable you'll feel you've already played this game many times before.
The dialogues are incredibly boring and npcs have absolutely no personality; and I don't understand why everyone has to shake their arms around while they're talking, as if they had a wasp in their shirt.
There's absolutely no identification to the hero as the appearance, personality and clumsy sense of humor of the character are imposed to the player.
Play this game if you still enjoy killing thousands of wolves, goblins, orcs and so on for hours and hours. Personally I got sick of it pretty fast. Apart from Sacred I don't think I've ever played a worse RPG. |
Planescape: Torment: 10/10 points |
It's not the most innovative game in terms of gameplay or special effects but it has what matters the most: an incredible story and set of characters that will haunt you for a long time after you've finished the game. IMO the best RPG of all times. |
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic: 6/10 points |
Did you notice how it has exactly the same storyline as Neverwinter Nights? I won't go into details not to spoil it but it really annoyed me. And the characters too, think of Bastila and Aribeth...
Just like NWN, It's a bit too black and white as far as role-playing goes. If I compared it to an AD&D game you'd have to be either lawful good or chaotic evil, there's no room for any subtlety. Not for my usual chaotic good style anyway.
Otherwise a good game with a nice twist in the plot. |
