World of Gothic has put up an interview with Kairo and Michael from the Piranha Bytes today. It is mainly dedicated to the upcoming, third, sequel to Gothic series. However, it is entirely in German, so I took the liberty to point a thing or two out:
  • At the moment, Gothic 3 has the sole attention of the Piranha Bytes team.
  • The story is not yet finished, but the idea is to design both the story and the game simultaneously. It will mainly concentrate on the motivations of the Gods' for waging the war, although some of Xardas' secrets should also be revealed.
  • The size of the new world will be considerably bigger, but nothing more specific on this subject.
  • It is not yet clear whether there will be horses in the game, or any other "ridding" animals for that matter, as the topic is complex.
  • The hero will have certain skills and reputation at the start of the game, opposing to the first two sequels.
  • The statistics' system will be changed considerably, but the basics are left as they are.
  • The most part of the engine will be completely rewritten by the team, even though some licenced components will stay untouched, so that the final product will differ considerably from anything it might have started from.
  • The music will be changed for the better, but will preserve it's original spirit.
  • The (dis)advantages of certain weapons will be emphasized, so that it will actually matter whether you wield a sword, mace or something else.
  • And, it seems that the new sequel will bring adjustable difficulty levels with it.
There is also a picture of the current character design, be sure to check it out!
