One of the cool things about World of Warcraft is that each of the starting areas, regardless of whether they are Alliance or not, will start with different quests to get players familiar with their part of the world, the world as a whole, and controls. I began my adventures as the so cleverly named FattyMcElf in Teldrassil, the new home of the Night Elves. The world in general was pretty rocked by the invasion of the Daemons and Undead and the Night Elves country was one of the worst hit. A few of the first missions in the game will be all about informing players in on what's been happening after the events in the Warcraft III games.
