Here's what they write about the background story: Asheron’s Call 2: Fallen Kings, takes place about 300 years after the original game. Apparently the Humans were finally able to claim the world of Dereth as their own. The wizard Asheron helped the Humans to master the ways of steel and magic in order to battle against the insect-like Olthoi, the Lugians and Tumeroks. After succeeding in gaining power over Dereth, all seemed well for the Humans. This was short lived however, and the Humans fought an internal battle over the source of Dereth’s magical power. Great wars were fought, and the races were forced under the surface of the earth. Now, after generations of hiding in fear, the three civilized races--the Humans, the Tumeroks, and the Lugians, come out to a brave new world, united to reclaim what was once their own.
