Buka's RTS with RPG flavouring, Battle Mages, has been previewed at AllAboutGames. Here's a snippet:Strategy games seem to have stagnated a bit in recent months. Since C&C: Generals early last year, we've hardly had any decent real-time strategy titles, except for add-on packs to Generals, Medieval: Total War and Age of Mythology. We still have to wait until the end of the year for Rome: Total War, now famously featured in the BBC series Time Commanders. And even then, there's hardly anything new of revolutionary happening in the world of real-time strategy. Looking aside from their settings (e.g. World War 2, Future-Combat, etc.), strategy games also seem to have a hard time distinguishing themselves from each other; particularly the not so good ones. As someone recently commented to me: "These games; they're all the same aren't they?" Of course, Battle Mages will try to be something deferent. Whether it is remains to be seen. |
