MMORPGdot: Independant MMORPG Showcase #2 Desta Online
Ekim, 2004-01-28
As the mmorpg genre evolves, MMORPGdot brings you a series of articles showcasing the independant makers of mmorpg games. These lesser-known games are often more revolutionary than their commercial counterparts, sometimes cheaper, or even free, and they are always and forever will be a sign of the creativity that the people working in this genre are capable of. This series of features exist to allow the makers of these games to have their moment in the spotlight, and also allow gamers to see what is being made outside of the more traditional commercial arena. This week we present our second showcase: a profile of Desta Online, a charming 2D mmorpg. Desta Online is a 2d Online RPG created with the Playerworlds engine. The World of Desta is vast, and still young. Many young explorers travel out from their hometowns to seek Riches, Fame, Honor, or immortality...
The World of Desta itself is composed of 3 layers. The first, Terra, is the natural earth from which the earliest humans settled. Gaia, the 2nd layer, an artificial world created by rich Terrans to create a separate and all powerful artificial earth. The 3rd and final layer, AEther, was never known to exist until Gaian Priests stumbled upon 2 holes in the sky, where you can see ghostly people and buildings. Only until after the Great War between Gaians and Terrans did anybody travel to AEther, and even then they never returned. In Desta you can buy a house, practice Alchemy, Smith special weapons and armor, Join with a friend to attack bosses or hard monsters, become mayor of a town, or even marry! As the Gaia elevators, which were damaged in the Great War which transports people to and from Gaia, are slowly fixed, more new islands appear on Terra. After Gaia is opened to exploration, Desta will be at its fullest potential. (Gaia's expected release date sometime in March)
Desta Online is completely free and in constant evolution. To lean more about it, or to try the game, head over to www.destaonline.com.
