IGN speaks with Auto Assault Project Lead, Scott Brown, about what players can expect from the forthcoming NetDevil/NCSoft game.IGNPC: So just what exactly does a chassis represent? It's more than just the shape of the vehicle, right?
Scott Brown: A Chassis defines both the physical performance of the vehicle and any statistical bonuses the vehicle might have. Since Auto Assault is running on real physics even just the shape of the vehicle can determine how it handles. We have a number of variables we can tweak internally that effect everything including acceleration, top speed, weight and even things like spin dampening to determine if you spin out or not. We can also set statistical RPG type settings like cargo size, armor bonus or an artificial combat bonus for example.
Of course you still can change the look of the vehicle with our tricks and trims systems in the various body shops found in towns throughout the game. These let you change colors, paint styles or add objects to the exterior of the vehicle, like fins or wings that are purely cosmetic so you don't have to trade off statistics for a particular look you want.
It is important to note here that you aren't represented in game only by your vehicle. Players have bipedal character avatars - that is who they are in the game. It is also why a single player can have many, many vehicles in their garage that they trick out and use, depending on how they want to play that day.
IGNPC: What are some of the different chassis types players will be able to use? How do they differ from each other in terms of performance and appearance?
Scott Brown:There are a ton of different vehicles in the game including tanks, big rigs, pickups, vans, trash trucks, sports cars, tiny cars, dune buggies, motorcycles and a limo, to name just a few. You will own a whole garage of vehicles as you play through the game. Each vehicle differs greatly in handling and statistics as well as just profile. You will be able to maneuver a motorcycle through small spaces, whereas you would just drive through everything in a tank. More... | Source: IGN |
