There's a preview of Eve Online at Frictionless insight today. Here's something about the ships in the game:
More than forty ships are expected to be in the game at launch, configurable with a variety of defenses, armaments and devices, enabling players to launch careers as smugglers, bounty hunters, salvage operators and pirates, among others. If the game ended there, it would be much like other MMORPGs, substituting pirates for more common kobolds. CCP wants to introduce a tremendous variety of possible occupations, and the ability to switch your profession around. Similar, perhaps, to trade skills in other games, players could pursue a career in research, discovering new technologies to aid society or sell to the highest bidder. The economy opens up plenty of other occupations. You could ship goods between systems, or even set yourself up as a financial trader, buying and selling commodities and equities in the game’s financial markets. By learning the skills necessary to design and assign missions, players could supplement developer designed missions and become corporate bosses or crimelords, creating convoys or raiding transports. |
