Gamepen has tossed up their review of Baldur's Gate 2 - Throne of Bhaal. Rating is 4 out of 5 stars, and this is their conclusion, including some issues they didn't like:
Not all is perfect, though. The expansion, unlike the rest of the series, is very linear. There are no side quests, and whether you're chaotic evil or lawful good, there's very little change to the gameplay. The only difference in most cases is that evil characters may not recieve aid at certain points from good NPCs that do give aid to good PCs.
Also, the expansion really adds nothing more to the game's mechanics, which isn't a bad thing. It's sole purpose is to conclude the series. (Ironically, the only thing that could slay it was AD&D licensing issues.)
That aside, Bioware was kind enough to give the player a choice of fates at the very end, and while they are somewhat trite and cliched, after a few years of Baldur's Gate, the finality and closure at the moment of truth at the very end is enough to make any BG veteran a little misty. |
