A preview of Deus Ex 2 - Invisible War has gone online at HomeLan Fed. Here's an excerpt:
The characters' AI in the game has also been improved and in ways you might not expect. Smith said that in addition to the branching dialog from the first game, Deus Ex 2 has what he called "AI barks". Each NPC will be able to come up with a line that describes the immediate enviroment around them. "He will go through a series of tags and say "Well, what can I make a comment on at this moment?'", Smith explained. "If he is alone he will say, 'Ah, I wish I can get off of work.' or something like that. Or if he looks around he might go, 'Hey somebody's busted that window." Smith said that they know there is a finite amount of items in the world that NPCs can comment on so they can craft dialog that can be generated for that. Because of all this new dialog, Smith said the script for Deus Ex 2 will have a whopping 30,000 lines, compared to "just" 10,000 for the original game.
