Gameshark has tossed up a review of Star Wars: KotOR, awarding a score of 9/10:Probably two of the best aspects of the game though are the party and experience systems. Okay, so the player can only take a maximum of two other characters in his party at a time (limiting, since there's an achievable maximum of 9 possible characters in the game), but since just about anybody can be viable in combat and still have room for a few secondary skills (some are just better at unlocking doors than others), the choice of who to haul out on a quest is pretty much up to the player. On top of that, the game allows party members to be swapped out at any time, provided the player is in an area not decreed "dangerous" (like, say, a dungeon), allowing an unlimited degree of flexibility. If there's a crate that absolutely must be unlocked before moving on, simply backtrack out into the open and swap out for the appropriate party member. And since the game automatically gives the same amount of experience to all characters, regardless on if they're actually selected as being active at the time or not, it means that players can effectively ignore a single character for half the game, then suddenly decide to make use of him and not have to worry about him being six levels behind everyone else. Definitely a great idea. |
