One of the best RPG's ever created. The main strength of this game is that it manages to blend story-driven gameplay and a non-linear, replayable experience perfectly. The setting is also pretty cool: Fallout is set in a post-apocalyptic version of the ol' US of A. The game's presentation is great, and it really reflects the atmosphere the designers intended. The only real flaw in this game is that it's a bit too short.
If you call yourself a roleplaying fan and don't own this title, hang your head in shame and disembowel yourself. |

Fallout & Fallout 2 are indistinguishable in my eyes as my favourite games of all time. I have played each over 20 times to completion. Fallout has the better storyline, Fallout 2 has th better gameplay.
P.S. I don't want Dungeon Siege - I took that piece of crud back 6 days after I bought it - talk about boring ... |

Yes, it wasn't bad at all. Pretty darn good actually. But Tim...this isn't where you rate Dungeon Siege. And though it may be rated lower...you will find that many many people bothered to rate it, and it still comes out fairly high. That says something. |

An absolute joy to play-although I liked Fallout 2 better. The third unofficial sequel to Wasteland and it plays much much better. The tongue it cheek humour, the atmosphere, the easy use of controls, the multiple ways to play the game, the hidden gems, what more can I say? Oh - Bull shannon meats McGyver. |

Came out when there wasn't a lot of competition, but it really was a great RPG. Before Fallout I had never been interested in non-fantasy RPG's, but this changed my mind ever after. Decent story, still non-linear, good character advancement, very dynamic. NPC's on your party sadly had bad AI and were prone to shooting you or allies. If that had been fixed, it would have been a definite 10. |

"The" most original roleplaying game of its time. Fallout helped to redefine the roleplaying genre by not being afraid to have dark humor, extreme violence, and a story satirical to the 1950s Cold War movement.
It looks and feels like a comic book or a Mad Max film and who doesn't like those little perk cards that might have been something Monopoly threw out due to ethics. :) |

One of the most anticipated games ever, heir to the Wasteland legend. Although marred by technical problems at launch (infuriatingly slow save/load times, bugs galore), the game /design/ is close to perfect. Story, "talking heads," voice acting (by major stars), post-apocalyptic theme, good ol' turn-based combat, and glorious artwork. |

A Fully realized world with a great pen and paper feel. You can actually make decisions, and they affect the game. How many recent RPGs these days break down to just clicking, stat adjusting, following linear paths, and watching cut scenes? Too Many. Long Live Fallout! |

May not have been the best game in a technical respect, but it's the game I'll always remember playing through. The first game I played through where combat wasn't a necessity. You could actually complete missions and gain XP without drawing a weapon in most cases. Combine that with a fantastic story and simply the best post-apocalyptic noir setting and you have a truly classic game. |

At long last, an RPG that doesn't involve your typical bloody elves and dwarves everywhere. The only spells in this game are the mesmerozing affects you get when you fry someone with a burst of your flamethrower. Dance puppy dance!!
The psychotic method as you "Aim for the eyes" when you target someone for death with your sniper rifle, are yet to matched in any other game I've seen. All of that, combined with a fantastic, solid story line and wonderful, involving quests and plot-twists make this THE best game I have played to date. The ending of this game is also exceptional, it wraps up everything you've done quite nicely. Of course, the ending you get does depend on how you played the game.... Excellent replayability. |

With a powerful story based on recognisable locations, with a (once) plausible history (who knows, we may yet blow ourselves up...) behind it, an excellent moral basis for many decisions and a fresh approach to what was an ageing genre, Black Isle showed their hand as a capable and competent software developer. The most appealling feature was the strong 50s themes runing through the game, and it was a pity that the following games didn't quite contine along that path. |

A very cool game. I especially like the look-and-feel of it (after all, back then almost all RPG's were fantasy). The only comment I had was the fact that it's a bit overwhelming. Maybe it was my playing style, but after a while, there were so many (uncompleted) quests I was involved in, I didn't know what to do first. The other complaints are often mentioned elsewhere: your teammates shoot too wildly (often killing you in the process), there's not enough money (I sucked if you needed X money for a quest, but you only had a number of weapons you COULD sell, but didn't find any shopkeeper with enough money to trade it in), ... |

Heh just played this game for the first time almost 5 years after it was released and all I can say is Kick Ass ! Goes to show content outweighs beauty/grahics ALWAYS. From the time I started to the last line of credits I loved it (Great music choice for intro and ending).Fun Fun Fun game, almost countless weighs to develop a character, great depth, everything done in this game was done well, and with all the depth it is still simple at the same time, you wont start and not finish it,anyway you look at it it is a great game.
The Two Things I dont like about it.
1- Party AI isnt horrible but was relieved when they died (except for dogmeat - *cries ),got tired of getting shot by them.
2- Me, myself and I for waiting sooo long to play this game.
If you havent played this game yet DO IT, forget about all the new crap that is out, go buy this game, NOW!, 2 times, dev team deserves it.

FallOut is the best role-playing game yet produced for the computer. Diablo is a better action-RPG, and some of the Baldur's Gate and Might & Magic games are better for character building and party based combat, but FallOut is still the best at delivering actual role-playing: fight your way through, sneak past the baddies, or talk your way out of trouble: most major events in FallOut had multiple options. Plus FallOut has the best flavor of any RPG - the incredible intro video, the truly cool retro-future manual, and the great black-comedy touches throughout the game, make it my all time favorite RPG. |

Fallout is the numero uno RPG of all time! It offers a surreal experience of the world in the future of what it might have been if the 50s and the Cold War had never ended. With open-endedness, a strong storyline, a great setting and a superb ruleset (SPECIAL), what more could you ask for from an RPG?
If you consider yourself an RPG fan, or just a gamer in general, and you haven't tried out Fallout yet, my only suggestion is that you go out there and buy the game. You won't regret it! |

Very non-linear, violent and amusing.
The story is revealed beautifully, with a strange mixture of humour and darkness that just works well!
The graphic violence is evident thoughout and it looks like no-one stopped the designers and said "hang on, you CAN'T show that!".
Turn-based gameplay makes for some very lazy gaming indeed (I don't like having to stumble around a screen with a mouse during a realtime fight, hoping I click on the right pixel the right amount of times).
There's a very natural evolution in gameplay that you do not notice until you return to some of your local haunts and discover that the vicious sob-NPC's ;) that made your life a misery as a newbie are tame compared to the villans later on in the game.

The true option to play with the morals of your own choosing. It sets itself 80 years after the nuclear apocalypse - serious business - but retains a sometimes twisted but always brilliant humor. The turn based combat engine is still, smartly enough, enjoyable even in the age of realtime.

I liked this game, but didn't love it. I would have like more control of the party members. I couldn'r equip them with better armor, and they kept shooting me in the back. I also don't care for quests with time limits. I don't like to be rushed. But for its time, and considering the lack of good RPG's out at the time, it was a good, solid game. |

The first, and still the best together with Fallout 2, real ROLE-playing game I played on the PC. In other words a game that gave me a fantastic oppurtunity to live out MY idea of how to play the game and how to develope a unique cgaracter whose characteristics really changes the game for each time I play. That, together with the best ending ever in a computergame and a COOL world and a lot more, made this game totally unforgettable. |

Trully great. Fallout is a god damn masterpeice. I hate linear and thats one thing it isnt. The only reason i dint give it a 10 was the bugs. Lots of bugs, graphical gliches on good vid cards even. My personal pet peeve about these comments are that people who give a low mark have as much responsiblility as commenting on their reasons as someone who gives a high score. Having said that, I think this game was one of THE most fun games I have ever played. Replayability was very good and you began to feel a part of the post-apocalyptic setting. You'll probably really enjoy this game if you liked Mad Max. |

It allowed me to be a post apocalyptic Jesus with a wide array of weapons. Or I could just be some whack job with a drug addiction and some serious violent tendencies. Though it had bugs, it was great and I still have it installed and I still play it simply because... I like guns and killing innocent people... Okay just kidding but this is a really good game and mayhaps the best I think tied for the greatest game I have ever played with fallout 2. |

Great game, especially for when it came out, but requires too many quests to be completed "perfectly" in order for NPC's to recognize something as having been done. Not as good as Planescape/Baldur's Gate series imo, but certainly an incredible game and worthy predecessor. |

Fallout is amazing. I played the game back in 97' when it was new, and I am still playing it now? Why? Because its the most rewarding game there is, with the different ways to beat every quest, the endings based on your game actions, and the great setting that the game takes place in, you will be excited, unlike other games, to go back and play again, with a differnt type of charector and do different things. |

Fallout is the true meaning of crpg. It has so many different options and paths to take, and has a wonderful story. Furthermore, it's character creation system is the best I've ever seen, I very nice change from the hordes of D&D games.
I give this a game a ten because it has kept me interested for six years and because no other game (with an exception of Fallout 2) has beaten it in atmosphere and story. |

What a fabulous game! Great humour, excellent setting, totally immersive, atmospheric music. I have enjoyed EVERYTHING of it. Yes it's a little short, but only to entice you to play it again as someone completely different and see how different it pans out for you. |

Fallout is one of those games that you just cannot dislike. It's rather buggy, it's short, it's timed (meaning you have a certain amount of time to finish it, which I usually hate) and it has borrowed a lot of things from my favourite RPG of all time, Wasteland. Despite all this, the game is extremely fun to play. There are lots of little details and funny dialogue to find, lots of exotic places to explore and a great story to follow behind all the combat and equipment gathering. It is a worthy follower in Wastelands mighty footsteps. |

I have to give this one a 10. Sure, Fallout 2 was better in many ways, it corrected some of the original game flaws. But let's face it: The first Fallout was at the time so inventive, original, innovative and was a real kick-ass RPG, for once not in médiéval type. Anyhow, that's my rating. |

A truly amazing game. The world is just so rich, and your character is truly malleable. Although you have to complete the main quest, you can choose to sacrifice morality for your goals, or live the morally perfect life. Fantastic. |

firstly this game has one of the best storylines and plots that any game can have. Its engine at the time of its release was by far a creative and uncanny masterpiece. Like many say it was a short game and it the way it was set up made it very difficult to make mods for. But since the storyline was flexible and multilayered you can play it 5 times and then still discover something new. The end...well ill let you discover that on your own. Either way once you play this game you probily understand why the game title has such a fanitic cult of a community. -bring on fo3!! |

I am by far from being a connoisseur for CRPG's. Maybe it is all the hype I've read from the fan base that praises this as the CRPG of CRPGs, which may have raised my expectations to a rediculous level. I wasn't impressed with much of the dialog, nor the NPC's. the AI sucks (Supermutant patrols? Ha! easy as pie since they shoot themselves). Dog Meat = No big deal, so it would be nice if people would shut up about the mutt. The positives are that I do like the post-nuclear setting, and the basic premise of the story. Other than bad AI durring combat, the Turn-Base style I find fun. I will also add that there is something about this game that makes it feel hollow. |

Another one of the greats. If you like government cospiracies,(especially US conspiracies) and combine that with bogus religion, in a post apocolyptic settting, you get Fallout. Great story and awesome customization options and graphics that were excellent for its time. Get this game if you can find it. |

This was the only RPG that I ever took the time to play through more than once. It was very unique, and was fun to play though with different types of characters (for different reactions and solutions to puzzles). The story was great, so was the sound and voices. Great RPG, the post nuclear mood is terrific, story is complex and interesting. The action worth the involvement but well it's a bit old even when it was released. I also remember bugs, included corrupted savegame, that spoil a little the fun. |

Delicious. A rare gem indeed. Dialogues, jokes, great setting and this unforgettable, cool feeling :) Why won't somebody just TRY to make another game like this?! Well.. Fallout 2 was even better, but where are rpgs like this now? Anybody? Producers, developers: Please stop making money and make a RPG (You'll make money anyway, just think QUALITY please ;-) ). |

The best game I have ever played.
The setting is incredible, a world that has been wasted by a nuclear war.
Fun dialog and well written.
Your actions affect the world and the turn based combat is well made.
You can solve quest in different ways depending on your character's stats.
A trully wonderfull game.
A masterpiece. |
