Along with its last Q&A feature, GameSpy has posted up an exclusive preview of Asheron's Call 2. Here's an excerpt:
Getting rid of some standard RPG conventions also means getting rid of a few that people have come to take for granted, such as the ever-present NPC shopkeeper who buys and sells stuff. The designers are aiming for an entirely player-driven economy, and there are a lot of changes from the original Asheron's Call (and other similar games) to make it possible. For example, crafting skills are learned entirely separate from the experience-point system. The only way to learn to craft items is to craft them: practice, practice! The great limiter here is raw materials, and just about anything in the game can be used as a raw material. So you may not need that helmet you just looted, but an expert crafter can take it and use its iron to craft for you a superb breastplate. |
