The Right Way to Go

by TheLonePaladin

So here I am, at the crossroads of my life. Where do I go? Of course, you know all the background stuff.

I'm Raven. Epic name, I know...

*

It all started with Snipes. You know how they're always saying, don't kill the messenger? Well that doesn't apply to Gomez. And why should it? I swear, sometimes he can be such a spoiled brat. Oops.

Ah hell, he'll never know. Or any of the other Ore Barons. They'd have killed me, or thrown me down there with Aaron. Anyway, back to Snipes. He came running into the camp, past the gate guards, yes both sets, nearly crashing into Thorus. Thorus was bowled over, as was Bartholo. Don't get me started on them - Thorus is an all right guy, but Bartholo! He spends all day gaping at the servant girls. - Shit, there I go again. Back to the story.

So Snipes burst into the throne room, disrupting Gomez. Well I drew my Right, but my superior waved me down. Snipes was panting and telling us this unbelievable story.

"Gomez...mine...water...collapsed...ore...gone."

"Speak clearly, you fool!" Gomez had always been quick to anger.

"The diggers hit water. The whole mine was flooded and collapsed. I barely made it out alive!" Snipes was regaining his composure, for all the good it was about to do him.

"What!? Collapsed!!" Gomez rose out of his throne and waved to me. "Kill him!"

Well, what could I do? The High Ore Baron gave you an order, you sure as hell better followed it. So out came my sword again, and I did him in. The poor guy... he had the most dumbfounded look on his face as my sword went in his stomach. And then he hung on the blade for a minute, not realizing he was dead. As the sword came out, down he fell. But you know all about that.

"Have him hung in the courtyard as a warning that foul-ups shall not be tolerated." Scar got this job. Gods, how I hated him.

"Yes sir," he said in his shaky coward voice, trying to sound masculine. Gomez flew into a rage.

"How could this happen!? I need ore, Raven. The Old Camp can't survive without ore!" What did he expect me to do? He was delusional.

"I know, sir," I said indifferently.

"Well?" Now he was getting angry again.

"What can I do?" Hey, it's only fair. I wasn't going to tell him to give up now and die a cowards death, which was the only reasonable solution.

"You're useless, Raven!" Yeah, yeah. He grabbed up the slave girl (Velan, Vedaya? Something to that effect) and dragged her to his room. I took my aggression out on a training dummy. Gomez... well, everyone needs a vent.
