RPGDot Game Rating Machine

Dr. Hoads has rated the following games:

Baldur's Gate: 7/10 points

Thin on story, weak on characters. I rate it a 6, but give it a +1 for helping to start a revolution.

Baldur's Gate 2 - Shadows of Amn: 8/10 points

Great Game. Enjoyable story, fun environments, good music and sound. More interaction with the NPC's and a bit more story would have made this my dream come true!! :-)

Diablo: 8/10 points

While tough to play by todays standards, at the time of its release, this was an amazing game (graphics, sounds, ease of play) and just drew you in with its glitz. Would not reccomend by todays standards, but it would be fun to try if you have never played any DIABLO games before.

Dungeon Siege: 2/10 points

Zero story... Boring gameplay... so what is the point. Even Diablo 2 TRIED to have a story!!! I liked Diablo 2.. This game is just sad. I will give it 2 points for the technology. Perhaps it could be used to make a much better game?

Fallout - A Post Nuclear Adventure: 9/10 points

This was the only RPG that I ever took the time to play through more than once. It was very unique, and was fun to play though with different types of characters (for different reactions and solutions to puzzles). The story was great, so was the sound and voices. Just wish it did not have a time limit.

Final Fantasy VII: 6/10 points

I played this because of all of the people that said it had a great story. Maybe it was just me, but it made no sense, maybe it was just translated poorly? I feel that the story in Fallout, PST, and BG2 were much better. Still... It was good enough for me to want to finish it. Also, how come console RPG threads have more nasty/stupid comments than PC only RPG threads?

Icewind Dale 2: 5/10 points

I was hoping for more story and same gameplay of IWD. Well... It had more story, but the story was uninteresting and did not flow well at all. I have to say that I actually enjoyed the story in IWD1 MUCH more than this. Combat was just as fun as the original, but the locations did not feel as "magical". It is a shame, because I was really looking forward to this game. I finished it, but I had to force myself.

Lionheart - Legacy of the Crusader: 5/10 points

While the first city was fun and interesting, it went down after that, with uninteresting locations, little plot, and tedious combat. I had trouble making myself finish this game. I did like the idea for the twist of history, but it was not played out very well.

Neverwinter Nights: 6/10 points

Fairly bland story, with arcade type gameplay. Great sound and some neat graphic effects. I tried very hard to like it, and I did like some parts, but overall I felt like I "HAD" to finish instead of actually wanting to finish the game.

Planescape: Torment: 10/10 points

First and last game I ever played that actually evoked an emotional response. (due to character actions) Now that is saying something. I wish I could provide a more technical review, but this game was all about the story for me.

Pool of Radiance - Ruins of Myth Drannor: 6/10 points

I enjoyed the turn based combat of this game. Sure it was slow, but I liked watching the battles play out, and being able to plan out my fight. Yes, you can autopause in IE games, but this is still better and more strategic. I like the sound and music also. The above ground scenery was great, and spell effects were great. Had a very D&D "feel" to it. What really killed it for me, was not being able to click on my map and have my chars goto that location. I had to manually send them there. I could not stand that, because sometimes the map was not clear for where there was an opening. I went into this game with low expectations, which is maybe why I was able to enjoy it a little?
